Have you ever wondered who used to conjure up the lightning that flashed like fire in the sky or the tsunamis that crashed like thunder at your oceanside doorstep? If you have been trying to figure this intriguing mystery out, I’ll help you understand how these phenomenons were believed to occur. It all dates back to Ancient Greece, which is way before me and you were alive!
The 12 Greek Gods of Olympus
The old ancient Greeks used to believe that the gods of Olympus conjured up their resources, weather and life. The gods were believed to be over 20 feet tall, that's about one fully grown giraffe. So to the ancient Greeks, these gods looked liked automatic rulers and very big compared to them so they felt small compared to the gods. There are hundreds of minor gods and goddesses, but the twelve most important greek gods of Olympus were Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, and Hestia or Dionysus. Hestia and Dionysus were both considered to be the twelfth god, because they both played a major role in Ancient Greek’s community, religion and everyday lives.
Let me tell you exactly what these gods and goddesses are capable of: Zeus is the King of the gods, he is the god of the sky, order and lightning. Hera is the goddess of marriage and family. She is also married to Zeus, which makes her the Queen of the gods. Poseidon is the god of the ocean and marine disasters. He is brother to both Zeus and Hades. Demeter is the goddess of agriculture, farming and living things. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, battle strategy and faith. She and Poseidon have a rivalry that has lasted for millennia. Apollo is the god of music, poetry and the sun. He is known for riding the sun chariot around the world, giving us the sun. Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, the moon and the natural environment. She rules over the Hunters of Artemis and without her calmness, the meetings of the gods would be in shambles. Apollo and Artemis are twins. Ares is the god of war, bloodshed and all harmfull weaponry. He is always there to start a fight. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and procreation. She loves to tinker with people's relationships, especially other children of the gods. Hephaestus is the god of fire, craftsmanship, blacksmiths and talent. His mother, Hera, cast of Olympus because of his unperfect looks. Hermes is the god of thievery, boundaries and messengers. His children are always troublemakers. Hestia is the goddess of the family hearth, warmth and domesticity. She is always there to bring light, joy and comfort to others when they are blue. Dionysus is the god of wine, grape harvest and wine making. He defeated the giant twins, Ephialtes and Otis. The Twelve gods ruled over the world in the time of Ancient Greece.
The Great Titan War
Now that you have heard about their special abilities and peculiar gifts, it's time we move on to
three of the most famous legends about some of the most important major gods. First we’ll start with the most powerful and well known god- Zeus. When Zeus was a baby his father, Kronos, devoured his siblings, the gods, in one big bite. Out of fear and rage, Zeus’ mother hid him deep in a cave from his father's wrath. Kronos wanted the gods eliminated, destroyed, gone. All he had to do was get rid of Zeus and the war would be over. When Zeus grew strong and healthy, he faced his father and tricked him into coughing up his brothers and sisters. Together the Big Three, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, defeated their father with his own scythe. The gods scattered their kins remains into Tartarus and Zeus replaced Kronos as king. This brought peace to the land and the people who enjoyed it.
Athena’s Rise to Queen
The next myth I will discuss is of a mighty contest, which began a war that has lasted forever. Both Poseidon and Athena wanted to be the patron god of Athens, so a competition was held. The judge was Cecrops, the former ruler of Athens, he was half serpent and half human. On the day of the contest both god and goddess presented their items of usefulness and beauty. Poseidon went first, he proudly produced a marble water fountain. Salty water dribbled from its center. Athena stood with pride and dignity, she revealed her gift to the city. She showed Cecrops a living olive tree. The tree was sturdy, strong and its gift to the world was olives and radiated beauty. The judge thought for what seemed like an eternity and said,”I was highly impressed by Athena’s item of use, and proudly ask her to replace me as ruler of Athens.” Athena accepted and a celebration was held. All along Poseidon stood in the shadows and gave Athena a murderous glare. A war had begun.
The Immortal Hunters of Artemis
The last folk tale I am going share with you is the myth of Artemis and how her group of immortal Huntresses came to be. On the day of Artemis’ birthday, she asked Zeus for six wishes of hers: 1- To be able to live life chaste. 2- To be able to be a lifelong bachelorette and never marry. 3- A special handcrafted bow that will never break. 4- Hunting dogs to assist her in her nights of hunting. 5- Strong stags to lead her chariot. 6- And 80 maiden nymphs to be her hunters. Zeus granted Artemis these wishes gladly, and Artemis was happy. She hunted all day with her dogs, stags and nymphs, and increased her numbers in Hunters at night. The Hunters of Artemis were strong girls, no older than 15, but no younger than 12. The goddesses hunters took a vow when they first joined to accept eternal maidenhood forever. And that, my friends, is how The Hunters of Artemis came to be.
The greek gods were treated like kings and queens in Ancient Greece, keep in mind that these gods and goddesses were the Greeks religion, beliefs and they were also their light and joy during the troubling days of their lives.

About the Making of Disney's Snow White
By Megan
“It is kind of fun to do the impossible.”said Walt Disney. He knew that he would have to dream big to achieve great things. He also knew that he would have to do something big and something hard. He would create the very first full length animated feature: Snow White
Backstory:
In 1916, Walt Disney saw a silent feature of Snow White. It was one of the first movies he had ever seen. Then, in the early 1930’s, Walt decided to share the magic of Snow White with the people of the world.
Walt got a group of his employees together and showed them that they would make the very first full length animated feature. As he was starting, he realized that he did not know how to animate people, so he created a short film of a little girl dancing in a flower patch and the girl looks like she is made of rubber.
The Making of the Movie:
Disney took this very seriously and had his painters use their own makeup to create a lifelike appearance for Snow White. Before animating his pictures, Walt did another test for Snow White, this time for depth: The Old Mill. The Old Mill was a very beautiful cartoon, but in the beginning, the focus comes closer to the mill at night and they noticed that they were getting closer to the moon. That does not happen in real life, so they had to re-invent animation.
Disney created the first multiplane camera to create a three dimensional cartoon that can only happen when the images used to make the movie were on a three dimensional plane. The way that Disney started out was having some images on a platform and taking a picture of them one frame at a time. Then disney made a multiplane camera to slide four planes of animation into one and create a better depth for the feature. Then when he tested the moon again, it stayed the same and Walt had another tiny detail out of the way.
When creating the seven dwarfs, Walt went through dozens of reject names and they are all hilarious:
The Casting of the Movie:
Walt Disney auditioned a young tween star for Snow White that had lots of talent: Deanna Durbin but, she did not get the part. Her voice was a little too mature to match Snow White’s squeaky voice. Instead the part was offered to young Adriana Caselotti, the daughter of Guido Caselotti, a vocal coach and Maria Orefice, an opera singer. In the final movie Adriana Caselotti plays Snow White.
It seems that Walt really liked his actors because he casted Pinto Colvig as Goofy for the Mickey Mouse cartoons and then again for Sleepy and Grumpy.
Happily Ever After For Walt Disney Studios:
On the day of the premiere, Walt’s nerves rushed with doubt for the movie’s ratings. He wanted Snow White to look great for the press. Just like the version he saw in 1916. Also, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard were at the premiere. It had to be perfect. All through the movie, Walt watched the audience laugh and snicker at all of the dwarfs silly habits, but in the end he was scared of how they would react to the dwarfs crying over Snow White’s Death. It turned out that he had nothing to worry about because while Snow White and Prince Charming got a happy ending, he did too. This production Took 5 years, 570 crew members, and 166,000 sketches to complete and after it was all over, he proved that “It is kinda fun to do the impossible.”

Musical Instruments
By Jessie
Do you ever wonder about instruments and how they work? If so , I will tell you all about them. First the exciting history, the wonderful families and finely an amazing orchestra!
History
People have been making music as long as there has been people, but the earliest known instrument were flutes. These flutes were probably made out of animal bones about 37,000 years old. A musical instrument was made to make musical sounds. At about 3,100 B.C.E people in west Asia and Egypt were learning how to make instruments that could play different pitches.
Families
There are four different instrument families brass , percussion , string and last but not least woodwind.
Brass instruments are made out of brass or some other kind of metal they makes music when air is blown inside. When the musician blows into the mouthpiece the air vibrates inside the instrument which makes the music. The brass instruments are trumpet , trombone, tuba, french horn, cornet, and bungle.
Most percussion instruments make sounds when they are hit like a drum or tambourine. There are also instruments that are shaken like maracas, but others are scratched , rubbed or whatever will make them vibrate to produce a sound. Some percussion instruments are drums, cymbals, tam-tams, timpani, bells, xylophone, tambourine, and also maracas.
The sound of a string instrument does come from the strings. The strings could be plucked, like with a guitar or harp, bowed such as a violin or cello, or struck like with a dulcimer. This creates vibration which makes a unique sound. Some string instruments are the violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, and dulcimer.
Woodwind instruments make sound when air is blown inside. Air could be blown across an edge , like with a flute , between a reed and a surface , as in a clarinet or between two reads, like with a basson. The sound happens when air is blown inside. Some woodwind instruments are the flute, piccolo, clarinet, recorder, bassoon, and oboe.

Orchestra
An orchestra is a group of musicians who play together together on all types of instruments. Sometimes a orchestra is alone and sometimes singers are with them. Sometimes an orchestra makes backround music available for tv shows and movies. When people talk about orchestras they are usually talking about symphonies, they usually play classical music that is usually played in concerts. Orchestra music is always written in scores which show the notes that are to be played by each instrument. Each musician only see the notes that they are supposed to play. The conductor stands in front of the orchestra and conducts it. Large symphony orchestras have up to 100 musicians. Smaller ones or chamber orchestras can have from 5 to 40. They were usually small enough to play in a chamber or hall.
So now I have told you about the history and families and even about an orchestra. I really hope you enjoyed all of this wonderful information on musical instruments. Now that you know all this about instrument you can enjoy the beautiful melodies even more and remember the history families and all of them together in an orchestra.

Chefs
By Madeline C.
Chefs are amazing and unique. In order to be a chef you would need to be able to create and blend to make the perfect dish. I prefer to bake and cook dinners and desserts because that is more fun for me. I like Daniel Dominguez and Giada De Laurentiis. Here is some information about them…
Early Life of Daniel Dominguez
Daniel Dominguez was born January second 1973, at Mountain View, California. Now he lives in San Jose with his wife Amber and his two kids. Daniel Dominguez went to college at the Art Institute in California. His family inspired him to become the great kind of chef he is now. Daniel Dominguez works in Palo Alto for Palantir. “ Ever since I have started to work in the restaurant I have gotten better at timing the food, working faster, and chopping and dicing vegetables and fruits. I have learned to smoke and cure meats, make homemade sauces, and to create ingredients to make rubs”. I actually tried to make on of his rubs for my ribs and it was delicious.
Daniel’s Dream
Daniel Dominguez's dream is to someday open up his own food truck or restaurant. One day Daniel would love to visit Thailand to learn more about their culture of food. Daniel Dominguez keeps up with the latest food trends by looking up new recipes on the internet, Instagram, cookbooks, and just creating. Daniel Dominguez has been cooking almost all his life. He said “If you want to become a chef you need to have patience, you need to listen, and you need to be good at chemistry”. I really like to cook and I to believe it is like chemistry.
Giada De Laurentiis Early Life
Giada De Laurentiis was born August 22, 1970 in Rome, Italy. At the age of twelve Giada and her family moved to Los Angeles. After graduating from Marymount High School, in Los Angeles, De Laurentiis attended UCLA, and after college earning her bachelor's degree in social anthropology in 1996. Giada went to and studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, with aspirations of becoming a pastry chef; she is a self-proclaimed chocoholic. Several years later she returned to the United States, she became a professional chef working in several Los Angeles restaurants, notably the Wolfgang Puck-opened Spago. She later worked as a food stylist and was contacted by the Food Network after styling a piece in Food and wine magazine in 2002. Her Food Network daytime cooking show, Everydáy Italian, premiered April 5, 2003. On Chefography, a Food Network biography program, she said she never wanted to be in her "family business" of show business, and that she felt uncomfortable in front of the camera when she first began hosting Everydáy Italian. When the program first aired, the Food Network received mail accusing the network of hiring a model or actress pretending to cook instead of a real chef.
How Giada Boosts Up Her Popularity Level
De Laurentiis began hosting Behind the Bash in October 2006. The program examines the catering process behind big event extravaganzas such as the Grammy Awards. In January 2007, a third Giada hosted show, Giada's Weekend Getaways, debuted on Food Network. On this show, De Laurentiis traveled to a featured locale (such as Seattle, South Beach, San Francisco, Napa, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming) and visited her favorite local culinary destinations. On a November 2006 episode of Iron Chef America, De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay competed against, and were defeated by Rachael Ray and Mario Batali. In early 2010, De Laurentiis came out with a line of kitchen supplies, exclusively for Target. That same year, CafeMom ranked her list. In June 2010 De Laurentiis became a regularly appearing mentor to the finalists on the popular Food Network competition show The Next Food Network Star. In July 2014, De Laurentiis opened her first restaurant, called GIADA, inside the Cromwell in Las Vegas, Nevada. Recently Giada divorced her spouse Tom Thompson.
Daniel Dominguez and Giada De Laurentiis are some chefs I really like. I love how they try and don’t give up until they have reached perfection. I really like how they inspired me to go with me dreams and just cook. Cooking is an art which those of these artists have made a masterpiece of.

The History of Disney Pixar’s Brave
By Sophia
Have you ever asked yourself, “ is this movie good? “. Maybe even, “ Will I like this movie?”.
Well wonder no more! In these paragraphs I will tell you about Disney Pixar’s Brave. You will learn about who directed the movie, when the movie premiered, who the characters are, and much more. Welcome to The History of Disney Pixar’s Brave.
Dates and Production
Brave was released in America in 2012 on June 22. It was premiered in Australia on June 11, 2012 and, premiered in Hollywood on June 18th. Brave was also the first full length movie to use Dolby Atmos for sound format. Before all of that, it was announced as The Bear and The Bow on April 2008.
The name was then changed when they got a new director.
Who are the Characters?
The main character is Merida. Merida is a free will type of girl. She loves to do archery, and she loves to ride her horse around town. She lives in a royal family with her three brothers, her mom, and her dad. Her brothers are triplets. They love to cause mischief and steal sweets. Her mom is a kind woman who rules the kingdom with much power. Merida’s dad on the other hand is very bad with manners. He always allows weapons at the table and burps really loud.
Who Voiced the Characters?
Have you wondered to yourself and said “Hey I wonder if someone I like stars in this movie.” or maybe just asking yourself “Who voices the characters in this movie? I wonder if it is good.” Well ask no more because I am going to tell you right now. The person who voices the main character Merida, is Kelly Macdonald. The person who voices young Merida, is Peigi Barker. The people who voice her parents are Billy Connolly, ( Merida’s dad ), and Emma Thompson ( Merida’s mom ). There are also littler roles like The Crow, The Three Lords, and The Witch. The person who voices the witch is Julie Walters. One of the people who voices a lord is Kevin Mckidd. He voices both Lord Macguffin and young Macguffin. And the person who plays the crow is Steve Purcell.
Who Created Brave?
The person who originally created Brave was Brenda Chapman. She created it as the relationship between her and her daughter. She was then replaced by Mark Andrews due to creative disagreements. The creative disagreement was ( and you can say this is a fun fact) that Brenda Chapman made all, or most of the scenes in the snow. Mark Andrews did not think it fit and he replaced her so he was able to change it. Though I would like to see what the movie would look like with snow.

This is one of my favorite movies. It shows girls you can do and be whatever you want. As you may be able to tell, girls and women alike are in love with this movie not just because of the inspiration, but because of the showing bond between mothers and daughters. This movie shows many great things in life like to never trust someone you just met, make sure what they’re giving you is safe for use, or even just, be careful what you ask for. Make sure you tell your mother you love her every day. She works very hard for you so that is the least you can do, and as you should know she loves you back.

Piano
By Brian
Did you know that the creation of the piano was never brought out to the Italy. Strange right?
Three things you should know is where did the piano come from, famous pianists, and the piano today.
The piano was one of the only instruments that used a keyboard in the old days. The piano is one of the only instrument that you can change how loud or soft you want it to be. This instrument was created around 3rd century B.C, it’s failed brothers of the piano are the clavichord and the harpsichord. The person who made the piano was Bartolomeo Cristofori Di Francesco. Bartolomeo was born on May 4, 1655. No one is not certain when the piano was built, but people say that it was around the 1700. Bartolomeo was recruited from Ferdinando de Medici to play the harpsichord for him. Somewhere in 1700, Bartolomeo created the Piano. What’s so amazing about the piano is that you're able to change the loudness or softness of the note.
Some famous pianists you should know are Ludwig Van Beethoven. Beethoven was a German pianist who lived from 1770 to 1827. He was the first to compose for a church near his home. In his middle life, Ludwig was a very good pianist. After in his later years, Beethoven's hearing started to die, after a while he would get frustrated and angry about his hearing sometimes he considered himself deaf. In 1827, Beethoven passed away from an unknown cause.
Some people say he died from liver damage and some say from syphilis. Beethoven was a heavy drinker back then. When you consume too much alcohol your liver has to work harder to get the bad stuff out and the good stuff in. To still this day no one knows what happened to Ludwig Van Beethoven. Some famous songs composed him are Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata
One more famous pianists is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart full name is Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart Johannes. Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria, as a young amazing composer. He was born in 1756 to 1791. Not only was he a pianist composer he was also a violinist. As his job in Austria, he was employed at Salzburg court as a hearer. In his later years, Mozart asks for more frequent performances to the public. And on 1791 Mozart died of old age. Some of his honorable piano songs are Sonata Pathetique and Sonata.
Today in the world, Piano is one of the most used instrument in the world and still is to this day on. One of the modern day famous pianists is Martha Argerich. Piano has not grown since the piano had the pedal. Now people remake the design of the piano quite strange. At the most, Piano is a great instrument and you should try it. Piano is a hard and challenging instrument but it’s worth a try.

Sign Language
By Jillian
When a person does not have the ability to speak or is deaf, they often use sign language to communicate with the outside world. Sign language is spoken through facial expression, arm and hand motions. Sign language is an incredibly complicated language, spoken by many famous and intelligent people, such as Andrew Foster, Glenn Anderson, Marlee Matlin, and Deanne Bray. All of these people have made history, have amazing accomplishments, and they all speak sign language.
A long time ago 1800´s American educators were against sign language. They wanted the deaf to speak and read lips. Then one day a man named Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet was over at a friends house for dinner. He sat with their young daughter (Alice) who was deaf from an illness she had many years ago. She watched while Thomas took his hat off set it down then drew the word HAT in the dirt. In a moment she understood, then she wrote hat in the dirt as well. Gallaudet now knew that Alice understood the concept of language. Soon Gallaudet went to ask the British if they could help him teach other people in America to sign. The British were very rude and did not help Gallaudet. Next, Thomas went to the French with hopes that they would help him. The French were very kind and even sent a teacher to come and teach the Americans how to sign. He came home to America in 1817. Then he founded the first American school for the deaf near Hartford, Connecticut. The language has evolved very much and is now ASL.
I have learned that sign language is an impressive and complex language. It really is a true and real language that should not be underestimated. I´ve also learned that you can be successful even if you are blind or cannot speak. Knowing sign language just makes being successful easier.

Food
By Hana
Food is crucial to everyone. Our five senses make familiar foods feel secure or remind us about our childhood, home, country and culture. We celebrate by eating special foods. Food is something that we need in order to survive. We eat and it gives us nutrients so we can be healthy. It helps us grow, get stronger or it might even keep us content.
What Is Food? Why Do We Need To Eat?
Food is any nutritious substance that any living thing eats or drinks in order to live a fit and healthy life. The human body cannot work properly if even one of the nutrients are missing. A healthy and balanced diet supplies different foods in the right amounts and combinations that are safe from harmful substances. Eating food can fix tissues and cells, make energy to keep warm, move and work. It can also carry out chemical tasks such as digestion of food or it can protect you from sickness. The earlier a person starts eating healthy the longer they would live.
How Can We Be Healthy?
Eating well means eating different types of food. There is no such food that contains all the nutrients that our body needs. Staple foods should make up the biggest part of your diet. They include cereals, starchy roots, and starchy fruits. Legumes are a good source of vitamin, minerals, and fiber to develop and repair the body. Legumes include beans, peanut butter, soy beans, beef and chicken. Protein are foods from animals and fish. Eating them gives us vitamins and extra energy. Proteins include meat, fish dairy products, nuts, beans, potatoes and some insects. Vegetables and fruit are an important part of a good meal. They supply vitamins and minerals to keep the body alive and working. You should eat a wide variety of different colored fruits and veggies. Some examples are dark green leafy vegetables, peppers, squash, mangoes, tomatoes, oranges, pineapples and cabbage. Fats should make up the least part of your diet. Eating too much fat may lead to obesity and health problems but a small amount is good for the body. Good fats include avocados, cheese, dark chocolate, whole eggs, nuts, chia seeds, olive oil, coconut and full fat yogurt. Bad fats include butter, margarine, shortening and beef or pork fat.

What Is Junk Food?
Snacks and fast food that have a lot of calories and have low nutritional value are called junk food. They are not only unhealthy but a study has shown that fast food encourages gorging. Elaine Magee wrote “ It’s the 21st century and junk food has gone global. For better or worse (mostly worse) junk food is now available all over the world. We see it most everywhere we go-- in grocery and convenience stores, fast food restaurants, on television-- usually looking very appealing.”
Why Do Some Foods Taste Good And Other Foods Taste Bad Depending On The Person?
People who have a lot of papillae find flavors overwhelming. They are known as “super tasters” and they tend to do things like put cream in their coffee or order foods mild. On the other hand, the “sub tasters” would order foods extra spicy.
Want To Know If You Are A Supertaster?
To find out, put blue food coloring on your tongue. Blue dye doesn't stick to papillae, so if your tongue doesn't get very blue, you're probably a supertaster. The bluer it gets, the greater the chance you are a subtaster.
Interesting Foods Around The World
In the United States we eat a wide variety of food. For many years people from other places come with food from their own country. New York is even called the “melting pot” in terms of the immigrants in the U.S. but what are humans really eating around the world?

- The country of Austraila eats Kangaroo Lion, which is a meat with a ruby-red color and it tastes like steak.
- The country of Costa Rica eats Gallo Pinto, which is a breakfast of rice, beans, eggs and tortilla.
- The country of Denmark eats Danish Smorrebrod, which is somewhat like an open faced sandwich.
- The country of France eats Escargots, which are snails with a garlic-herb butter sauce.
- The country of Germany eats Jagerbraten Mil Spatzle, pork and mushrooms in dark sauce.
- The country of Hong Kong eats Dim Sum, a Cantonese cuisine that serves bite-size portions to taste and share.
- The country of India eats Masala Dosa, a thin pancake with spiced potatoes and onions.
- The country of Italy eats Cicchetti, which are savory snacks or small side dishes.
- The country of Nicaragua eats Nacatamales, which are usually eaten on Sundays and it is a dough with fillings such as tomatoes and olives that are cooked inside plantain leaves.
- The Philippines eat Lechon on holidays, it is a roasted pig served whole.
- The country of South Korea eats Samgyetang, a soup with chicken and rice.
- The country of Thailand eats Pad Thai, containing noodles, fish sauce, bean sprout and tofu.
- The country of Ukraine eats Holubtsi, cabbage rolls stuffed with rice and meat.
- The country of Vietnam eats Mi Quang, a noodle dish with meat and vegetables.
What In The World Is Next?
In conclusion, humans eat to survive. We may have different foods to eat for different reasons, but all food help us move and work. We need to eat staple foods, legumes, fruits, vegetables and fat to be healthy and maybe we can even live longer. So go out there, eat and whether you are a supertaster or a subtaster, have fun trying and exploring something new. Maybe you’ll have a new favorite food!

Orange Meringue Pie Recipe
This recipe is from: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/165149/orange-meringue-pie/
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 4 eggs, separated
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, cut into pieces
- 2 teaspoons grated orange zest
- 1/2 cup diced orange segments
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Line pastry with aluminum foil and a layer of pie weights or dried beans. Bake in the preheated oven until edge of crust is golden, about 10 minutes. Carefully remove the foil and weights; bake about 5 minutes more.
- In a small saucepan, stir together the 3/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup cornstarch, and salt. Mix in the orange juice, lemon juice, and water. Whisk in the egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until thick and bubbly, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in butter and orange zest. If desired; stir in diced orange segments. Pour into prepared pie crust, cover with plastic wrap, and set aside to cool.
- When pie filling has cooled to room temperature, preheat oven and prepare meringue. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a large glass or metal bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar and cream of tartar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form. Lift your beater or whisk straight up: the egg whites should form a sharp peak that holds its shape. Spread over pie, making sure the meringue completely covers the filling and meets the edges of the pie crust.
- Bake in preheated oven until meringue topping is golden brown, about 15 minutes.
Atari

Have you ever wondered who created Pong, Centipede, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, and even PAC-MAN? That was all Atari. Atari was first founded by Nolan Bushnell & Ted Dabney in 1972. Atari was originally to be named Syzygy, (Siz-i-Jee) but named Atari instead. Atari was named “Atari” because Atari is a term in the Chinese game, Go. Atari started it off with “Computer Space”, Nolan, and Ted’s first video game ever. It was created in 1971(Yes, it was created before Atari was founded). This was just the beginning of Atari.
<<<Games>>>
Atari set the stage high for one of their most popular games back in 1972, Pong. Pong was one of Atari’s first games, yet it sold 38,000 copies. Six years later, Atari sold 300,000 copies of Space Invaders. Two years after that, probably Atari’s biggest hit came out. PAC-MAN sold a whopping 350,000 copies. Many Atari fans were disappointed when PAC-MAN came out on the Atari 2600 though. The game was different in so many ways. All the ghosts were the same color, there was only one ghost, the screen was horizontal, the background was blue, the PAC pellets were bars, and there were only two power pellets. What was up with that?

<<<Gaming Systems>>>
In 1971, the most common game system back then, was created, the arcade computer system was born, with the first arcade game ever, Computer Space. Then in 1976, the oldest Atari “take home” system was made, the Atari 2600. Some games on it were good, like Spy Hunter, some were just not worth buying, like PAC-MAN. The Atari 2600 was originally named the VCS, but named the Atari 2600 once the Atari 5200 came out. The Atari 5200 was made in 1982. PAC-MAN on the 5200 was much better than the 2600 version, but not as good graphics as the arcade system version. Many other games were much better than the 2600 version, so the Atari 5200 sold about 1M copies. In 1986, the Atari 7800 came out. In 2009, the Atari 7800 was ranked the 17th best video game console of all time by IGN. Atari’s game consoles just got better and better over the years.
<<Computers>>
Some Atari computer systems were the TT030, the 800, the 800 XL, the 400, the ST, the PC-5, the XT, etc. Most computers were actually used for gaming. The first system wasn’t even a system. STELLA was an Atari 2600 emulator. From then on, most computer systems were actual systems.
Atari was one of the first video game companies, and it was a well liked company back then. I remember when I was young, I played my dad’s old Atari system and it was great. I think I played PAC-MAN back then, and it started it all for me. Atari had some rough times, like selling it to other companies. Atari got through it all. Atari faced its enemies, and their games are inspiring. Atari was a great company, it is, and they always will be.

You’ve probably heard about animation, but where did it come from? What's it’s importance? When was it invented? Who invented it and why? Have you ever seen a fire-breathing dragon in a movie? That is what animation is. In this report I’ll be answering and explaining questions about animation.
History
Animation was invented in 1603 with the Magic Lantern. “Magic Lantern is an image projector using pictures on sheets of glass. Since some sheets contain moving parts, it is considered the first example of projected animation”, according to History-of-animation.webflow.io The inventor of animation was Charles-Émile Reynaud, who used the Moviola. The moviola was a contraption that would quickly spin to make it seem as if the image was moving. The first animation featuring realistic people was the Enchanted Drawing, created by Stuart Blackton.
Longest Animations
The longest animations were Final Yamato (two hours, 45 minutes) and The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (two hours, 44 minutes). Final Yamato was released in 1893, while the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was released in 2010. Both movies feature a certain drawing style called Anime.
Styles of Animation
There are different ways to animate what you need. Theres 2D, which creating a flat animation. There's 3D, which is done in movie theaters by having the movie playing twice at the same time with one blue and one red. With the special glasses you're given, one color is canceled out. This creates the illusion that the image is popping out at you. There is also CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) which allows you to animate without having to do as much work. There’s hand drawn animations too. These are called flip books, and they were created in 1868. The Thaumatrope is the thing where you put two pictures on both sides of a circle, put strings on both sides of the circle, turn the strings so the circle will spin, and let it loose. This will create the illusion that the two sides are one picture. This was created in 1824.
Walt Disney
Walt Disney was the maker of the first fully animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. His movie has been remade a few times, but it’s always based off of the old one. Walt Disney served overseas driving an ambulance with Disney images on it. When he came back over, he moved to Hollywood with $20. He started with making small animations to see what he could do, but eventually he started making movies. Disney movies gets a several million dollars per movie, and some have over 6.6 million views.
Watching Animations
Animation is a bunch of images moving across the screen quickly, so the smoothness of an animation depends on a person’s eyes. Most people see around 40-60FPS, but pilots can see more than 200.
The End of Animation
Animation has been around for a few hundred years.
